Hello, and welcome to yet another page on chain weaving. Probably you have already seen a chain necktie like the one to the left on some of the other pages using the standard knot.
Die Gürtelkombination ist ein Kettengürtel (auf Neudeutsch 'Belly Chain' genannt), welcher mit zwei Handgelenkschlaufen kombiniert wird. Also braucht es drei Kettenstücke. Das freie Ende jeder Handgelenkschlaufe wird nun mit mit der Gürtelkette verbunden, bevor diese dann geschlossen wird.
The belt combination is a chain belt (some may call it 'Belly Chain') combined with two wrist loops, so you need three pieces of chains. The free end of each wrist loop chain is connected to the belt chain as long as the 'belt' is not closed yet.
Die Kettenlänge zwischen Handgelenken und Gürtel wurde so bemessen, daß ein klein wenig Lose vorhanden ist, wenn die Arme frei herunterhängen. Rechts ist zu sehen, welche Länge sich ergeben hat. Gönen sie sich das bisschen Luxus, denn sobald sie beginnen, ihre Arme zu bewegen, werden sie sich bald ihrer Grenzen bewußt.
The length of chain between the wrists and the belt has been chosen such as to have a little slack in the chain when the arms hang free at the sides. On the right you see what length I did use for that. Allow you this little comfort, as once you start moving your arms (or look once more at the photo to the right), you rapidly find out about your restricted range.
Natürlich wollen sie die Taillenkette nicht abstreifen. Es empfiehlt sich, verschiedene Längen für die Taillenschlaufe auszuprobieren und dann die entgültigen Schlaufe mindestens zwei Kettenglieder kleiner zu nehmen als die kleinste Schlaufe, welche sie gerade noch mit Mühe abstreifen konnten. Aber vielleicht können sie es noch enger nehmen, solange es nicht unbequem wird. Für micht ist es am bequemsten (und am sichersten), wenn (bei gegebener Länge) die Kette knapp oberhalb der Hüftknochen verläft.
For sure you do not want to slip your belly chain off. It is a good idea to
try different lengths for the loop and make the loop at least two links
smaller than the smallest loop you were able to slip off (with some effort).
Perhaps you have to go for even less chain links for a
snug but not tight fit.
Running the belt just above my hip bones at the sides, for me it is most
comfortable that way (and secure of course) for a given loop size.
Links ist die eigenständige Version mit einem Vorhängeschloß gezeigt, mit der man nicht nur Stehen, sondern auch noch Herumlaufen kann. Wenn ich zwei Kettenenden mit einem Vorhängeschloß verbinde, benutze ich gerne den Boromäischen Knoten, Ich kann es natürlich auch in ein Kettenendglied einhängen, womit ich das Kettenstück; am Ausfädeln hindere.
To the left is the standalone version using one padlock, or better call it 'walk-around' way of securing all this weaving. If using a padlock, I like to use this 'Borromean knot' when connecting two chains. Or putting it at the end of a chain blocking it to be pulled through another chain link.
Aber eigentlich will ich hier kein Vorhängeschloß verwenden, sondern bevorzuge eine Kette wie auf dem Bild rechts. Zum einen ist ein Vorhängeschloß dick. Und dann gibt es das Phantasieelement: ist Ketten vielleicht am Boden, Wand oder Decke verankert? Die Kette könnte sogar durch ein Loch in der Wand gehen und draußen außer Reichweite befestigt sein. Und wielange ist denn die Kette?
But somehow I prefer not to use a padlock in this place but to have a chain running off like on the right picture. Partly because the padlock is a bulky part compared to the chain. And there is the phantasy bit; is the chain locked to an eyelet in the floor, wall or ceiling? May it even run through a hole in the wall and be hooked up out of your reach? And how long is this chain?
Ich bin immer noch der Meinung, daß die Handgelenke wirklich in der Nähe bleiben sollten. Und wozu braucht es ein Vorhängeschloß in Fingerrreichweite, wenn man den Gürtel im Kreuz verschließen kann. Mit Schloß oder mit Knoten ,ganz wie es beliebt.
Still I feel the wrists should be kept a little bit closer. And why should there be a padlock in the reach of the fingers, if the belt can be closed in the back. Have a padlock or a knot used there, as you like it.
